HIGH MEADOWS PACKTRIP

After breakfast on Wednesday, those who want to take an overnight packtrip prepare a sack lunch and head for the barn.  As soon as the regular rides and all-day ride clear the barnyard, we'll mount up and follow the packhorses into the high country.  Stopping for lunch on the way in a beautiful meadow surrounded by pines, we arrive late in the afternoon and set up camp.  To minimize our impact on the environment, we go to a different site each week, some with wide vistas, some near crystal clear streams, but all in gorgeous scenery and isolation.  Each family gets to set up their own tent while the wranglers put the horses out to graze and Jim starts supper, a great meal you won’t forget.

After supper there's usually time for a hike and a little exploring.  Then hunker down in our sleeping bags and listen to the night sounds as you drift off.  Following an early morning cowboy breakfast in the brisk mountain air,  mount up and head for the ranch so you get back in time for a delicious pizza lunch.

This trip is for the more adventurous riders.  Kids need to be at least 10 years of age to take this trip and be able to control their horse.  Attention span is crucial since the ride is long and demanding.  For the younger kids, we offer the Ute Scouts Overnight, which is geared more for the kids.  Of course we will allow the adults to go along - if the kids agree!
